Wheel Mandala Thangka 24 K gold painting

This is a gorgeous 24 K gold Wheel Mandala Thangka painting from Nepal. It has vivid colors and good detail. The canvas is very clean as well. I brought it back with me from my last trip to Nepal.

The spiritual symbol in the center of the Mandala is the Wheel which represents Shakyamuni Buddha unfurling the great teachings of Buddhism to help mankind attain Buddhahood and free itself from suffering. In a sense, the beginning of his teaching may be likened to setting the wheel in motion.

Thangka paintings are made by hand with natural paints from plants, crushed stone, as well as real gold and silver. The artist spends weeks - and sometimes  months -on a painting depending on the size and detail. The prices are incredibly reasonable as they seek only a modest profit considering the time and effort put in to survive and feed their families. Their work is a spiritual endeavor and they take great pride in their art and believe that even looking at a Thangka painting can bring one merit.
